SHE MAKES ART / SHE MAKES MUSIC / TRUE STORIES BY WOMEN PROSPECTUS TEXT - 2027
Contemporary Arts of Tulsa is pleased to recognize and celebrate the great work by Tulsa Women Artists in our 8th annual SHE MAKES ART, 3rd annual year of a musical component, SHE MAKES MUSIC and this year we are reintroducing a performance element WOMEN’S TRUE STORIES.
We are seeking creative entries by:
• Those who self-identify as women, who make art of any discipline and are 18 and older.
• Artists must currently live in the general Tulsa area (50 mile radius).
• Open to all forms of expression that are original including: performance, music, poetry, video, visual artworks and combinations of these.
VISUAL ARTISTS
• All visual works must be for sale (with the exception of installation works) and must not have been shown within a 100 mile radius before the exhibit opens. Visual works can be no larger than 36” x 48” due to space limitations.
• If chosen, 2D artworks must be framed and wired. No “gallery wrapped” work will be shown.
• Visual entries will this year be juried via online virtual entry method by the juror, MEL HAMILTON but if the works are different upon arrival, the Director has the right to not accept them.
• Installation works must have a good description as was well as a detailed drawing of the artist’s concept and an example of previous work should be submitted and indicated as such.
• Visual Artists may enter up to 3 artworks per entry form with an entry fee of $15 each to defray costs. 2 artworks will be $30, 3 artworks will be $45.
• Photo files must be 1-4 MB and jpg format with the file name the same as last name of the artist and the title of the work. Ex: “Liggett – Plumbob 1.jpg”
• This year Visual Art Awards and Trophies will be given in the categories chosen by the juror and the cash awards will be determined by the amount of sponsorship that we receive.

• Juror: Our visual arts juror this year is MEL HAMILTON who says about the entries she will pick, “At this challenging moment in time, I'm looking for work that explores identity or societal issues as they relate to women. Works in all mediums will be considered, with a preference for those with a high level of craftsmanship and presentation.”
• Juror’s Bio: Mel Hamilton is a studio artist from Oklahoma City, now based in Charlotte, NC, whose practice spans painting, text-based work, and 3D conceptual forms. After a successful 20+ year career in higher education administration, she transitioned into the visual arts and earned her MFA in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her recent solo exhibition, Exodus, was presented at Contemporary Arts Tulsa, Oklahoma. Hamilton also serves as an adjunct professor of painting and drawing at Central Piedmont Community College. Recent exhibitions include juried and group exhibitions including ArtFields in Lake City, SC; as well as Keep Pushing, Group Exhibition at Goodyear Arts, and the ArtPop Street Gallery in Charlotte and New York City.
MUSICIANS

Due to time constraints, each musician will be allotted 3:00-4:00 minutes for their performance. This should be an original new work that you have composed, and may be vocal, instrumental, singer-songwriter, a cappella, in any style, that allows your creative spirit an expression of your life or observation of this experience through music. PERFORMERS/STORYTELLERS
• Auditions for female Tulsa area performers, at CAT on February 21, 2027 for “True Stories by Women” curated and directed by Julie Tattershall.
Those chosen will need to return return to CAT on February 28, 3pm for directions by Julie Tattershall for “True Stories by Women”.
Calendar:
• February 1, 2025, 5pm - SHE MAKES ART/SHE MAKES MUSIC - 2027 Entry Deadline.
• February 14, 9pm – This year’s Juror, Mel Hamilton, makes Digital Jurying Deadline.
• February 19, 5pm - Artistic Director Notifies All Artists/Musicians via email of
their Acceptance or Rejection of the Digital Jurying Results.
• February 21, 3pm - Auditions for “True Stories by Women” for female Tulsa area performers, at CAT with Julie Tattershall.
• February 28, 3pm – Directions for “True Stories by Women” with Julie Tattershall.
• March 9, 2027, 1-3pm - Delivery of Artwork Chosen from Digital Jurying. Visual artworks selected must be framed and ready to hang.
• March 9-11 - Installation
• March 12, 5-8pm, Second Friday - SHE MAKES ART 27 Opens.
Award Winners are announced at 6:00pm.

• Gallery will be open on Thursdays and Fridays 5-8pm and Saturdays from 1-5 through the Closing.

• April 2, 1-3pm, - Unsold and sold work is picked up and checks are given out on
sold work. If you cannot be there to pick your work up, please make
arrangements to have someone else pick it up and notify Steve of who
has that authority.
