Patrick Romine

Patrick Romine was born in Texas and grew up in Tulsa. He is a realist artist by training and takes his subject matter from the world around him. A lot of his paintings are conceived on his travels or are taken from things he sees in Oklahoma. After moving back to Tulsa a few years ago he began exploring the area with fresh eyes. He was impressed by the dichotomy of agrarian as opposed to the older structures from the oil boom days. The past and present are always with us. He began his art education at Philbrook Art Center when he was in high school where he studied oil painting with P.S. Gordon as well as life drawing classes. Next came Tulsa University where he graduated with a BFA in 1980. After graduating he moved to New York City to continue his studies at the Art Students League. While in New York he worked as a graphic designer at the New York Shakespeare Festival.
In 2010 he received an MFA from the New York Academy of Art where he was able meet in person with various working artists and hear about their studio practices. He also has traveled extensively throughout Europe to visit the great art collections. In Madrid he was able study first hand the works of Velazquez and Goya who are big inspirations for him. He has shown his work in Santa Fe, New Mexico and in the New York area.
